The main drawback in using calcium hypochlorite is the need to store the chemical properly to prevent any possible contact with heat or moisture. If calcium hypochlorite is exposed to even small amounts of either, it can cause violent explosions, fires and the release of highly toxic chlorine gas.

So how do you store it?

Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse.

Keep away from fire and heat.

The storage temperature should not exceed 30℃, and the relative humidity should not exceed 80%.

The packing should be sealed and not in contact with air.

Should be separated from reducing agents, acids, inflammable substances, etc., avoid mixed storage by all means.

Should not be stored in large quantities or for long periods.

The storage area shall be provided with suitable materials to hold the leakage.

Emergency treatment of leakage

Emergency treatment: Isolate the contaminated leakage area and restrict access.

It is recommended that emergency personnel wear dust masks (full cover) and gas suits.

Do not come into direct contact with the spill.

Do not make leakage with reducing agent, organic matter, flammable material or metal powder contact.

Small leakage: to avoid dust, collect with a clean shovel in a dry, clean, covered container and transfer to a safe place.

Large leakage: cover with plastic sheeting and canvas.

It is then collected, recycled or transported to a waste disposal site for disposal.
